AMDGPU PRO in ROSA R8
Добавлено: 07 ноя 2016, 13:21
Good news for the lucky owners of relatively new AMD GPUs - the proprietary driver AMDGPU PRO is now available in ROSA R8. Currently, it is in the unofficial "x11-backports" repositories.
AMD released this X11 driver for Ubuntu (and, strangely enough, for RHEL 7), but we have repackaged it for our OS as well. The driver is currently experimental and in "beta" stage, so it may contain bugs. Still, you can try it.
So far, we have run only a handful of benchmarks on this driver in ROSA R8 with kernel 4.8 on a system with Radeon RX 460 GPU. Compared to the opensource graphics components (Mesa 12.0.3), the gains of AMDGPU PRO are not that huge but they are quite visible anyway. Here are the results of Unigine Valley benchmark with the default settings, for example:
* AMDGPU PRO:
Avg. FPS: 41 (min 18, max 75)
* Mesa 12.0.3:
Avg. FPS: 32 (min 14, max 54)
Installation and confguration instructions are now here: http://wiki.rosalab.ru/en/index.php/AMDGPU_PRO
So, give AMDGPU PRO a try! As usual, you are welcome to upload the info about your system running AMDGPU PRO using our hw-probe tool (https://linux-hardware.org/index.php?view=howto).
