You can try and test the best kernels with BFQv7r7 disk I/O scheduler: about 5 seconds less in kernel boot times!
We have now organized the kernels in a better way, at least we think so...
In ABF we are storing kernels organized in different folders per branch number,
so. for example, we have one folder for all the kernel versions of 3.0.xx serie...
For all the Kernel LTS versions, we are preparing also the Kernel-RT flavour
All versions prepared to install and work starting from MDV 2010 & 2011 upto ROSA 2012LTS & 2012.1
The files are stored in the new ABF folders, instead those for old Mandriva 2010.2 will stay only in MIB
ABF can't build for old MDV2010, for that reason all our rpms for MDV 2010 are the results of local build
INFO about the SRPM build possibilities:
For ROSA Marathon we'll build Kernels LTS: 3.0, 3.2, 3.4, and all the latest kernels up to the 3.8 series
For ROSA Fresh we are building all Kernel versions starting only from the 3.6 to the most recent series
For old distro, we are maintaining build compatibility: you can also rebuild for Mandriva 2010 and 2011
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION (taken by a user comment I've found in the mandriva international forum):
Nym писал(а):Kernels install separately, they don't overwrite one another. A kernel upgrade does change the default kernel, but the old one will still be on the list at the boot splash, you'd use the arrow keys to select the older one.
So it's not a system killer to try an upgraded kernel. If it doesn't work, select and older one, and remove the newer. I mention this because you may want to try one of the 3.x kernels packaged by MIB. I'm using MIB kernels on a couple laptops because wifi didn't work with the stock kernel. MIB fixed the problems.
[/quote]
The group folders are organized like repositories, so you could also add them using the 'urpmi.addmedia' commands
So, if you feel good, for example, with kernel 3.2 branch, you can leave this repository enabled to receive updates...
Here are the paths of different kernels for MDV2010
Files stay on MIB - Kernel 64bit > Click Here - Kernel 32bit > Click Here
Advice:
Probably, we'll leave only the latest three or four versions, while all the files of the oldest versions may be deleted...

Kernel 3.7.7 nrj nrjQL for ROSA 2012 2012.1 & MDV 2010 2011

Today we are aligning again with the "latest stable kernel" 3.7.7
this recent kernel is prepared with the new source model (nrj V4)
for this version I sent to rebuild only 1 flavours: desktop
but soon I'll send to rebuild other some kernel flavours...
next to be rebuilt would be -realtime, -laptop, -netbook
(if we need some else we can rebuild all other flavours)

- ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Apart the usual general fixes, new git versions for AUFS and TuxOnIce,
we notice the amazing new version v 6 of the BFQ (disk I/O scheduler):
I remind you that is available as default for all the nrjQL flavour series...
BFQ v6:
- Replacement of the cooperating-queue merging mechanism borrowed from
CFQ with Early Queue Merge (EQM), a unified mechanism to get a
sequential read pattern, and hence a high throughput, with any set of
processes performing interleaved I/O. EQM also preserves low latency.
(see http://algo.ing.unimo.it/people/paolo/d ... iption.php
for more details). Contributed by Mauro Andreolini and Arianna Avanzini.
The code for detecting whether two queues have to be merged is a
slightly modified version of the CFQ code for detecting whether two
queues belong to cooperating processes and whether the service of a
queue should be preempted to boost the throughput.
- Fix a bug that caused the peak rate of a disk to be computed as zero
in case of multiple I/O errors. Subsequent estimations of the weight
raising duration caused a division-by-zero error.

Thanks, for the question / suggestion:
only with 3.7.8 we realized that the problem was caused by the new path of version.h
at the begin i thought that was an error of 3.7, and I waited for a mainstream solution
then I verified that also new kernel 3.8 has the same new path for version.h
other distros like fedora, suggest to create manually the symlinks as a workaround,
but i dont like at all suggesting these genre of operations to the "everyday users"...
We discussed a clean solution with A. Burmashev, and finally yesterday a clean
fix was added to the spec, and verified in internal build 3.7.9
today, new kernel 3.7.9 will be prepared with the fix, and will be send to ABF
For the future:
with new drivers, dkms, etc we should take care of new version.h path natively
next dkms drivers should address the problem,
the symlinks are only a backport workaround,
fixing dkms issues, but not a official solution
none other symlink is in the/include/linux/

Availability: only for ROSA Marathon X1 2012.0:

Having all these 3 versions, is usefull only because help us to check and verify better
all the progresses and eventual regressions from the latest versions -rt8 to upto -rt10
i.e.lately has been reported by GvM that rt9 had a regression with a module of vmware
we hope that this newest -rt10 is working well for vmware vms and for everything else...
If You try and test some of these realtime kernels,
please, post Your feedback to the above MIB links

Kernel Farm for Linux ROSA, Cooker & OMA ^ nrj & nrjQL 3.9.5
Добавлено: 12 июн 2013, 12:23
NicCo
Hi,
Today we are aligning again with the "Latest Stable Kernel: 3.9.5"
These first test are important expecially for ROSA Marathon, where there is an LTS kernel serie:
3.10.x is very important, the reason is that's the most probable candidate to be the next LTS kernel,
while the maintainance for LTS Kernel 3.0.x should be finished by this year (october/november 2013)
In my marathon x64, kernel 3.10 series (in that early development status) install and runs just fine...
It would be possible, in the 2014 year or later, to move on this newest LTS Kernel 3.10 for Marathon,
or to propose it as a valid alternative with all possibilities to update it for some years to come...
(naturally we need to update also all the proprietary drivers with compatible versions)
WORK IN PROGRESS
After Kernel 3.10 rc5, I'm already preparing for sending to ABF:
-1) a fixed version of kernel 3.8.13 (release 3.8.13-2):
getting all suggestions by POK, and by other forum user (reported by A.B)
-2) kernel 3.9.6 in all their usual flavours (nrj & nrjQL & vanilla series)

Hi,
Today we are completing the first maintaining release (Release 2) of Kernel 3.8.13 (EOL)
Alexander Burmashev писал(а):
"I'm very interested to the new just added patch: scsi_storvsc_avoid-usage-of-WRITE_SAME.patch
That's particularly very important for me.
Actually, ROSA installation on Hyper-V machines may be blocked by a bug, and this patch should fix!
I guess it is not so critical for cooker, since it may be used 3.9 kernels ( where it is fixed upstream )."
Availability: it will be full for ROSA 2012.0, 2012.1 and cooker, in 32 & 64bit arch
%changelog
* Sun Jun 16 2013 Nicolo' Costanza <abitrules@yahoo.it> 3.10.0-0-rc6.1
+ kernel 3.10 rc6
- verified defconfigs and removed all warnings build related to kconfig
- new key value request > # CONFIG_ATH9K_LEGACY_RATE_CONTROL is not set
- (this kernel is still in early development stadium)
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------
- Kernel 3.10 for mdv 2010.2, 2011.0, cooker, rosa.lts2012.0, rosa2012.1
- MIB (Mandriva International Backports) - http://mib.pianetalinux.org/
- This kernel has no MIB or other patches, and no third-party drivers

WORK IN PROGRESS:
After Kernel 3.10 rc6, that is what I'm already working on for sending to ABF:
Kernel 3.9.7
LTS Kernel monthly maintainance:
preparing Kernel nrj and nrjQL for LTS Kernel 3.0 (3.0.83 or 3.0.84)
apply suggestions by POK and all those reported by A..Burmashev
NEW KERNELS (first time ports for these flavours):
preparing Kernel vanilla for LTS Kernel 3.0.xx
preparing new Kernel rt for LTS Kernel 3.0.xx
preparing new Kernel rtQL for LTS Kernel 3.0.xx
the same work and new kernel flavours for LTS Kernels 3.2.x & 3.4.x series

Re: Kernel Farm for Linux ROSA & OM Cooker^ 3.10.0 rc6
"I inform You all, that kernel 3.8 serie, with EOL 3.8.13 is not dead for us:
you surelly noticed we have maintained it to a newer release as -2, but
we'll continue to support and update with all new fixes, patches, ecc...
The main reason, apart that 3.8 is the official kernel for ROSA Fresh is:
kernels "even" numbered are more supported, the only ones with the rt
so it's NOT possible having the RT/RTQL kernel for 3.9,
I remind you that rt branch is supported for so long time...
an example -rt for kernel 3.0 has reach rt108 version"
New release 3 of all our usual 5 kernel flavours are available:
You can read about the changelogs, clicking the below links
ASAP, here are available for You, dear ROSA customers, kernel rt and our even more powerfull hybrid rtQL
Dear RT Folks,
I'm pleased to announce the 3.8.13-rt12 release.
changes since v3.8.13-rt11:
- added the missing "acpi/rt: Convert acpi_gbl_hardware lock back to a
raw_spinlock_t", reported by Steven.
- added an option to the i915 driver to disable the expensive wbinvd. A
warning is printed once on RT if wbinvd is not disabled to let the
user know about this problem. This problem was decoded by Carsten Emde.
- disable the trace_i915_gem_ring_dispatch() tracepoint on RT. Earlier
it was reported that using this trace point leads to "scheduled while
atomic" warnings. To fix this I pulled out the function in question out
of the tracing macro. Upstream complains that this leads to too much
overhead if the tracing point is not enabled so not it is gone.

Добавлено: 06 июл 2013, 21:35

IMPORTANT NEWS: for all the professional users of ROSA -rt & rtQL kernel series
our kernel tester, Mario Moles, found a proper way to resolve the issue happening between a kernel rt / rtQL with pulseaudio:
Warnings:
1> to solve the pulseaudio crashes with an rt and/or rtQL kernels:
Simply edit the file /etc/pulse/daemon.conf with rlimit-rttime = -1
2> It has been reported a bad freeze issue with ATI fglrx driver...
Suggestions:
If you are an ATI video card owner, use Xorg open ATI driver, otherwise:
1> it's better NOT install kernel RT and/or RTQL (problem with crashes)
2> don't install kernel > 3.9 (es. 3.10): recent fglrx blob dont support it!

Today we are synced again with latest stable kernel with nrj & nrjQL 3.10.5:
if everything is ok, should be published by ABF in about 4 hours since now
Availability: for ROSA 2012.1 and cooker, in 32 & 64bit arch,

Since few days Cooker has been forked into two branches: cooker and openmandriva2013.0 (frozen for omv20130.0 release),
so, since this 3.10.6 our rebuilds will follow this scheme and will be made be also for cooker and openmandriva2013.0 both...
People with OpenMandriva 2013.0 LX testing new kernels 3.10 should remove the previous kernel cooker repo and replace it with the new openmandriva2013.0
(naturally the above suggestion is only for those who want to stay with stable OpenMandriva 2013.0, not for the followers of cooker developments...)
while all the nrj & nrjQL flavours would follow soon...

the problem has been already successfully fixed, an the new fixed rpms for 3.10.9 are already available...

- Tomorrow I hope to complete; vanilla-nrj-desktop & vanilla-nrj-laptop
For the complete and full featured nrj and nrjQL series, we need to wait
for all the patchset availability:
I try to guess for about the end of September, or for early/mid October.

Re: Kernel Farm for Linux ROSA & OM Cooker ^ new Kernel 3.11.0
DIfferences from plain vanilla:
Ondemand governor (instead of Performance), full Preempt, RCU preempt & boost, BFQ as I/O scheduler,
kernel-vanilla-nrj-desktop 3.11.0
kernel-vanilla-nrj-laptop 3.11.0
300Hz for laptop instead than 1000Hz
Goals: having the chance to try ASAP new kernels, also with full Preemption enabled "NRJ v4 mode", in this way we can start trying the NRJ kernels much before, even up to one or two months earlier than usual, we can also verify if some patch used in mainline featured kernel may cause regressions or unstability, it's a good bench test for developing...
Kernel behaviour: like a "kernel-vanilla" plus a faster disk I/O, a greater PowerSaving, a better multitasking and a better multimedia desktop experience!

Question:
PastorDi писал(а):What is the difference kernel "nrj-laptop" from the "nrj-desktop"?
Answer:
I presume your question is related to latest kernel-vanilla-nrj-xxx, so: It was already explained above, in my description msg, look carefully

300Hz for laptop instead than 1000Hz
Using 300 Hz instead of 1000 Hz into the CFS scheduler, should result in the most of laptop PCs:
CONS: less responsiveness
PROS: less cpu temp and greater battery lasting, especially true in idle times
The other Kernels, the nrj and nrjQL series, have many more diffs from desktop to laptop...
it's possible, in the next versions, add also these kernel keys to the new vanilla-nrj-laptop

Kernel 3.10.12
brief desciption from Softpedia:
"Linux kernel 3.10.12 brings mostly networking fixes, especially for IPv4 and IPv6 protocols, and lots of updated or patched drivers, also networking related."
An important fix: in all rt / rtQL and nrj & nrjQL, there will be an important patch requested by A.B.
from the changelog:
- add patch linux-fixuClibc.patch
- (it was recommended by Alexander Burmashev: uClibc builds on kernel 3.10
- we have a lot of such stuff in cooker, especially recommended for cooker...)

Kernel 3.11.1 nrj and nrjQL: Here first full featured release!
I remind to all that kernel 3.11 may be not compatible with your old installed proprietary driver (Ati fglrx, Nvidia, broadcom-wl and all dkms-xxx):
before to try any installation, inform you about driver compatibility, update drivers if available, only after you can install safely new 3.11 kernels!
My first test results:
I use Marathon x64 with all free and open driver, none problems
I've tested VMWare 10 and VMPlayer 6: it works out of the box!
Please, don't complain with me about proprietary driver malfunctioning! I'm testing successfully 3.11, only with all free soft and drivers...
The only installed app needing proprietary modules rebuild is VMWare: I've tested VMWare 10 and VMPlayer 6: it works out of the box!
