how to install Epson Stylus all-in-one printer/scanner

I’m running Rosa 12 LXDE from Live USB. Before I decide to installit on my hard disk I want to make sure that my printer/scanner works properly. The Epson stylus DX8450 is not recognized, I tried to install manually but it was not in the list. How should I do this?

As we can see on THIS page, it should work with gutenprint (printer functionality). Would you like to try this driver and share your results here? Meaning you must install cups&gutenprint and xsane in the live mode and try the printer/scanner. Remember that after rebooting all installed packages will disappear.

I downloaded and installed gutenprint. Installing xsane failed with this essage: urpmi database is locked, process 2819 is already using it (/usr/bin/perl /usr/sbin/drakrpm-edit-media). So still no scanner and no printer.

Well. Could you please boot from scratch into the live mode again and install everything from repos (from GUI)?

I started in LXDE control center:
programs - edit software sources - Add. (default choices)
then
Add/remove programs
- installed Cups 1.4.8, Xsane 0.998, and finally gutenprint 5.2.7
hardware
- setup printer: this choice seems dead(?). There is no respons when I click (or double-) on this button.
- setup scanner: not my Epson in the lists. There is no generic printer or so.

Perhaps the system needs a reboot, but as I'm working in a Live session, all the work is lost on reboot.
In Libreoffice writer there is a generic printer but it gives no output.
I swiched the printer off and on again.
I can start Xsane scanner but the scanner is not recognised.

Strange, strange...
