After some investigations I found that Synapse requires at least Vala 0.14. While we have 0.12 in Rosa 2012 LTS (and I see in changelog that Vala was reverted back to 0.12 due to some stability issues). I cannot say for sure if it's possible to update Vala, I need to discuss it with other developer...

True, most Live CD Linux distros include a partition manager, although for a fast booting disc with a partition manager the three options I mention are hard to beat.
