Разрешение экрана

Подскажите как правильно добавить новое разрешение экрана, если
1) Монитор определяется как неизвестный
2) Доступны только разрешения от 648х... до 1024х... из настроек.

Монитор : ATEN (консоль)
Видео : i915

а вручную его (или что-то похожее) выбрать разве нельзя?

нельзя не доступно, понятно что вручную.
если делать что-то типо такого http://intop24.ru/screen_in_linux, это выглядит очень костыльно, при запуске wm ругается на разрешения , хоть и работает, но это не устраивает.

попробуйте поиграть с настройками XFdrake (настройка видеокарты). Иногда такое помогает.

Что-то не видать EDID. Просто у меня возникла авантюрная идея в иксовом конфиге прописать достоверный EDID т.к. у Вас интелловское видео (man intel).

Попробуйте создать
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/i915.conf
с таким содержимым

Modes "нужное-x-разрешение" - не забудьте указать допустимые для монитора разрешения.
Если вдруг невозможно будет войти то удалите его в однопользовательском режиме (single).

А другой монитор на той же карте работает? Нет ли каких переходников подозрительных? Можно ли попробовать на другом кабеле?

Да и на других мониторах тоже низкое разрешение.
Соединенно напрямую кабелем vga.

попробуйте поменять кабель - похоже, какая-то железная проблема.

Так 4 контроллера разные, а кабель один, потому и предлагают его заменить.
