In near time we will plan release RP1 of Fresh (june-july 2013) as bugfix-feature fix...
Next release in last of year, but may be first will be Openmandriva (as together-develop release).

Dear Akdengi,

could you persuade the developers to restore nfs-utils-clients to the repository and the DVD? I also sorely miss the programs of the old Mandriva Control Centre that made sharing via nfs on a LAN simple, in the new combination of systemsettings and KDE-settings.

Greetings and keep up the good work,

Erik.

Via 1.2.6 NFS nfs-utils-client not present in all distro (see for example http://pkgs.org/search/?keyword=nfs-utils) as standalone package. Try use nfs-utils.

For config try use draknfs or system-config-nfs (draknfs need be run via root CLI) - if some work, we may add it to Control Center.

Also i will try update nfs-util to latest stable 1.2.7 release.

Сообщение ejvwaasdijk » 02 май 2013, 14:46

Dear mr. Akdengi,

without nfs-utils-clients it is impossible to have Rosa start up with an nfs server already connected on user level. I wasted a lot of time trying to make this work with the nfs-utils that the Rosa repository gives. It seems impossible to me. This is why I removed rosa's nfs-utils and downloaded the Mageia 2 versions of both and installed these. Also when I wanted to share a directory on a LAN network and clicked on "share" under "properties", I only got a Samba option, not the nfs options that used to be there on Mandriva. I never learned to share directories via the CLI, because Mandriva made it so easy. So I first had to learn how to do this. I am glad I discovered "draknfs" in /usr/sbin with the other old mandriva control centre programs. So I could make a share in spite of Rosa's mixing of only some system settings with the KDE settings.

I shall have to make another network on the computers of a friend of mine, and do not want to go through this hassle again of removing Rosa's nfs-utils and downloading nfs-utils and nfs-utils-clients from some other distribution, and perhaps even work without the series of drak programs when they are removed from a newer Rosa version.

I also tried the new PCLinuxOS version. It keeps the old mandrake system administration programs, but has chosen for apt-get instead of rpmdrake with the consequence that I had to rename ".rpmnew" files to make things work. It appears to me that the old Mandriva is the Leica among the distributions: the distribution that had everything, and all other distro's can be graded according to what they lack compared with it.

As soon as Mageia 3 appears I shall try it. I hope it will continue the high standard of ease of use that Mandriva had.

It is a pity that Rosa falls short, because I like the Rosa bar and the new menu with its time line. I use it now, because after all the time spent on the nfs problem I do not want to throw away the result that works at last thanks to Mageia's programs.

Thank you for your patience to read all this, and for the help you give whenever you can.

Greetings,

Erik.

I writed in previous post that nfs-utils-client removed since 1.2.6 nfs (in Mageia2 it present, but in Mageia 3 pakage did not present too).

Tools for use is another questions - we may add to KDE Control Center draknfs or system-config-nfs - you will help us if you try run draknfs (you need run Konsole, than type
you root password and then type
and try it.

Or you may install via rpmdrake system-config-nfs and run it from Menu.

Add NFS options to Dolphin menu is another task.

P.S. ROSA is not Mageia, PCLinuxOS or Mandriva and we has own way for development - drakx instruments is too old and need replace for some reason - some part for now is automated, some droped, etc. And we replace it step-by-step - drakxnet replaced by NM, some drakx tools replaced by native DE tools.

Dear Mr. Akdengi,

I tried drakxservices via konsole and read the errors it caused. Most of them had to do with sysv and systemd. So now I understand your explanation that the draktools all need to be updated. I understand now too, why drakxservices does not work well. It is impossible for instance to stop the bluetooth daemon from starting via drakxservices by uncecking the service.

I uninstalled the nfs-utils and nfs-utils-clients that I had taken from Mageia and reinstalled Rosa's own nfs-utils. You are quite right that this is no real solution. You are right also that the new Mageia 3 does not have nfs-utils-clients either.

I have wasted a lot of time trying to get a nfs share on my little LAN without mounting as root. The conclusion is: one cannot do it with Rosa Fresh installed on the computers.

I installed the new Mageia 3 RC on my computers and the nfs sharing works as expected; no problems at all.

So, there must be some setting somewhere in Rosa Fresh that is different from the one in Mageia, PCLinuxOS, or Rosa Marathon EE.

Thank you for your help and patience with me and keep up the good work.

Erik

I am here from a forum search and in much the same position, only I have never used NFS before.

$ cat /etc/release
ROSA Desktop Fresh R3 release 2012.1 for x86_64
I have seen the sharing modules many times in the past 14 years in MCC and looked there. First, I found I had to install drakconf-legacy. There, it seemed pretty simple and intuitive. I added local directory paths and left the rest default. Then, I could access these files from an installation of OpenElec on another machine on the lan and play the videos (mkv, mpeg, avi, wmv) and dvd isos perfectly. I was very happy.

However, after a reboot of the server machine, nothing related to nfs is running and I can't see the machine from OpenElec share browser. If I only start draknfs, the server is started and the shares become visible on the lan.

This daemon is nowhere to be seen in $PATH nor in chkconfig, the old system. So, I sought to wrangle with systemctl and the FM. One query,

Код: Выделить всё

systemctl status nfs-server.service
Returned a red Failed dependency when status was checked after reboot and before the nfsd had been started by draknfs. Accordingly, I did,

Код: Выделить всё

systemctl list-dependencies nfs-server.service
and tried to do

Код: Выделить всё

systemctl enable
against the apparently related services below nfs-server.service in the tree. Some were not enabled but links were made to enable them, some were not amenable to enabling, and, at the end, nfsd was still not started at boot. :o

I found this thread and tried system-config-nfs. It seemed to not understand some of the default options put in /etc/exports by draknfs, so I returned to draknfs and removed all the shares. Then, I ran system-config-nfs and did much the same as with draknfs, not changing defaults, mostly, borrowing a * for hosts from how draknfs did it. That all seems to work well but there is no nfs service running at reboot, so I have to run draknfs. Apart from manually having to start the server, this file seems to be fine for me:

Код: Выделить всё

$ cat /etc/exports
# generated by drakhosts.pl
/download/sports *(ro,sync,all_squash,anonuid=501,anongid=501)
/download/video *(ro,sync)
/movie *(ro,sync)
/News/Pan *(ro,sync)
I guess it would not be too terrible to just run draknfs whenever I want to use OpenElec like this but maybe someone knows a better way?
Thanks.

A couple of reboots later, nfsd is started by itself and all my sharing scheme is working fine.

I didn't notice doing anything major. I thought I had rebooted, before, after running system-config-nfs but maybe I didn't.
Maybe Putin rdp'ed over and fixed it for me.

After shutdown and cold boot a half hour later, there is no nfsd running.

I think maybe the Openelec box "stimulates" the service to start when it looks for it, so I fire up that box.
